Scholastic Player of the Month Award
Forward Raphael Lavoie is the Halifax Mooseheads Scholastic Player of the Month for January. The Grade 12 student at Prince Andrew High School continues to excel in the classroom in his second season in the QMJHL.
“He’s an extremely intelligent young man,” said Mooseheads Educational Advisor Allie MacDonald.
“We’re very proud of what he has been able to accomplish this season both on the ice and in school.”
It’s clear that Lavoie is feeling more comfortable in his second year in Halifax. The Chambly, QC native is sustaining high marks in courses like pre-calculus, English and Global Geography. On the ice he is enjoying a breakout season. The 6-foot-4 forward is fourth in team scoring with 46 points. He has 21 goals and 25 assists in 51 games which has destroyed his rookie totals of nine points in 32 games.
The 17-year-old was born in 2000, but won’t be NHL Draft eligible until 2019 because of his September birth-date. He is already getting praise from NHL scouts and is wowed fans with a seven-game point streak in early January that saw him score four game-winning goals with three of them coming in overtime. Halifax selected Lavoie in the second round, 29th overall, of the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft.
Raphael Lavoie and the Mooseheads are on the road tonight in Charlottetown in a key Maritimes Division battle. First place Halifax is 12 points ahead of the third place Islanders. Puck drop is 7pm. The Moose will return to home ice on Thursday versus the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at 7pm. It’s the final Student Night of the season which means tickets for just $9 with valid student ID, free cover at the Dome & Cheers plus we are giving away $1000 for your books and tuition!
