MOOSE DOWNED 5-1 ON DND APPRECIATION NIGHT

The Halifax Mooseheads celebrated the 12th Annual DND Appreciation Night on Friday at Scotiabank Centre in front of a big crowd of 7,512 fans.

Unfortunately for the Moose, they were on the wrong end of a 5-1 score against the visiting Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

“Obviously it wasn’t our best effort,” said Halifax defenceman Cody Donaghey.

“I think they out competed us tonight, it’s as simple as that.”

Danny Moynihan, the game’s third star, continued his torrid pace with his 14th goal of the season midway through the opening period, but that would prove to be all the offense Halifax could muster. Timo Meier picked up the lone assist on the tally.

The game stayed close throughout the second period as the Sagueneens scored twice as first star Garrett Johnston tied the score before Alexandre Jacob gave Chicoutimi the lead when he tipped in a point shot at the 17:37 mark.

Donaghey felt the wheels fell off for the Herd in the third period as the Sags tacked on three more goals to put the game out of reach.

“It’s deflating when you try to come out and play your best hockey and they get a couple of quick ones like that and I think we could have helped out Brass a lot more tonight.”

Mooseheads starting goalie Eric Brassard made 22 saves in the game while Chicoutimi netminder Julio Billia stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced to earn the second star.

Donaghey said the chance to show support for Canada’s military wasn’t lost on the players.

“It’s great to honour our troops and it was a great crowd tonight so it was nice to see all the fans come out and support us as well.”

All proceeds raised from the jerseys will go directly to the QEll Foundation – Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Garden.  To date, the Mooseheads DND Appreciation games have raised more than $100,000 to help better the lives of our Veterans at Camp Hill.

Halifax returns to home ice Saturday night at 7pm when they entertain the Baie Comeau Drakkar for the only time this season. Tickets can be purchased at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office at Scotiabank Centre, select Superstore Outlets, www.TicketAtlantic.com or by phone at 902-451-1221.

Don’t forget to bring the whole family to the Mooseheads Fan Fest on Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm for lots of fun and games. The carnival-like event will feature bouncy castles, interaction with all the Mooseheads players, face painting, games and prizes. Fan Fest will be a hit with the kids and will take place at the World Trade & Convention Centre.
