8 call-ups ahead of Friday’s preseason game

The QMJHL preseason schedule is set to resume for the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday night in Springhill, NS where the team will visit the Moncton Wildcats at 7pm. The current roster had been depleted with eight of 21 players away at NHL training camps, forcing GM Cam Russell to make some call-ups to fill the void.

Re-joining the team on a temporary basis are forwards Nathan MacMillan, Sonny Kabatay, Gavin Hart and Yannic Bastarache along with defencemen Cole Larkin, Zachary Byard and Curtis Heffernan. Goalie Joel Goguen was also recalled. All eight players will be dressed for the game against the Wildcats.

Alex Gravel (Blackhawks), Jared McIsaac (Red Wings), Benoit-Olivier Groulx (Ducks), Jocktan Chainey (Devils), Arnaud Durandeau (NY Islanders), Antoine Morand (Ducks), Jake Ryczek (Blackhawks) and Walter Flower (Lightning) are the current roster members who left this week to partake in NHL camps.

The Mooseheads have a 2-1-1 record so far in the preseason following back-to-back wins over Acadie-Bathurst late last month. Rookie Marcel Barinka is Halifax’s leading scorer with three goals and one assist in two games played. Moncton’s record sits at 1-5-1 which includes their participation in Kingston’s OHL preseason showcase last weekend.

Following Friday’s matchup the Herd will only have only one game remaining before the start of the regular season. The final preseason game will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 7pm vs Moncton at the Halifax Forum.
