Dogs nip Moose 4-3
Close but no cigar tonight in Saint John.
The Sea Dogs, who now sit in 1st overall by one point over Shawinigan, never surrendered the lead all night but took the full 60 minutes to shake a fiesty Mooseheads squad. The Sea Dogs led 1-0 after 1 on a Zack Phillips goal and 3-1 after 2 with Jonathan Drouin cracking the goose egg for the Moose. Ryan Falkenham, who has 4 goals in his last 3 games, scored 15 seconds into period 3 to cut the Sea Dogs lead to 3-2. A few big Zach Fucale saves were then followed with a beautiful goal by Drouin again on the powerplay to tie the game at 3 with 11 minutes to play. Drouin now has 20 points in 23 games since joining the Moose in December. The Sea Dogs would score the game winner shorthanded when Charlie Coyle netted his 10th goal for the Sea Dogs in just his 13th game for the Dogs. Fucale took the loss in goal despite another solid effort making 34 saves as the Herd were outshot 38-23 in the game.
Life doesn’t get easier for the Moose as they will play another powerhouse in Shawinigan this Saturday afternoon at the Metro Centre at 2pm.
