Halifax Mooseheads Majority Owner and President Bobby Smith announced today that the Mooseheads have signed General Manager Cam Russell to a four-year contract extension. Russell is the fifth General Manager in franchise history and the longest serving, having held the position for 10 seasons.
“I’m grateful for the confidence that Bobby continues to show in me and I’m excited about the direction our team is headed,” said Russell. “I’m proud of what we have built as a group and am looking forward to this coming season and the challenges that lie ahead.”
“I am extremely pleased that Cam Russell has agreed to extend his contract for the next four seasons. Under his leadership our team has had an excellent record of drafting and developing players,” Smith stated.
“During Cam’s time as General Manager the Halifax Mooseheads have sent many players on to professional hockey and many others have left the Mooseheads well prepared for university hockey and university studies. The lineup that Cam has assembled is a major reason that Halifax will be hosting the 2019 Memorial Cup. Mooseheads players and fans can be confident that their team will continue to be one of the exemplary franchises in the Canadian Hockey League.”
The Cole Harbour, NS native has been the General Manager of the Mooseheads since 2008. Originally, he also held the duties of Head Coach but moved his attention solely to the role of General Manager early in the 2010-11 season and was the architect of the President Cup and Memorial Cup championship team in 2012-2013. Russell’s first job with the Mooseheads was as an Assistant Coach from 1999-2002.
