Hockey Canada extends World Junior Camp invite to Mooseheads
Halifax Mooseheads stars Jared McIsaac and Antoine Morand received excellent news on Wednesday when Hockey Canada announced they were part of the 40-player group that have been invited to participate in this summer’s Sport Chek World Junior Showcase in Kamloops, B.C., July 28th-August 4th.
The showcase, which represents the first step for players hoping to represent Canada at the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship, is an eight-day event featuring Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States.
McIsaac was recently drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of last month’s NHL Entry Draft. The defenceman from Truro, NS has played two full seasons with Halifax, accumulating 13 goals and 66 assists in 124 career regular season games. He set a franchise record for most points scored by a 16-year-old defenceman in 2016-17 with 32. He was the second overall pick by the Mooseheads in the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft.
Morand came to the Mooseheads in a trade last month after a stellar three seasons with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, culminating with a Memorial Cup Championship in Regina this past May. Morand is a 2017 second round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks and has scored an impressive 200 points in 181 games which included a career high 76-point campaign last season. Like McIsaac, he is a former second overall pick in the QMJHL when the Titan called his name from the podium in 2015.
Other QMJHL players to receive invitations to the summer showcase include; goalies Matt Welsh (Charlottetown), Olivier Rodrigue (Drummondville), defencemen P-O Joseph (Charlottetown), Noah Dobson (Acadie-Bathurst), Nicolas Beaudin (Drummondville), forwards Maxime Comtois (Drummondville), Joe Veleno (Drummondville) and Joel Teasdale (Blainville-Boisbriand).
