Dube is a 5-foot-7, 143-pound forward who shoots left. He played with the EC Salzburg U18 team in Austria last season where he scored an incredible 32 points (9 goals, 23 assists) in 12 games before adding 13 points in 8 playoff games. He also played 19 games with the RB Hockey Academy in the Czech U18 league and picked up 14 points (9 goals, 5 assists) in 19 games. The speedy player says he’s thrilled to be coming to Halifax.
“I have been waiting for this moment for a very long time now. It was always a dream of mine to play in this league and it’s just a huge day for me and my family. I am very proud to be able to play for the Mooseheads next year.”
The newest member of the Mooseheads was not in attendance at the draft but will be coming to Halifax in time for training camp in August. His grandfather was cheering from the stands in Shawinigan and the team presented him with Dube’s draft jersey.
Dube is the son of former QMJHL star Yannick Dube and was born in Bad Tolz, Germany. That’s the same hometown as former Mooseheads Memorial Cup Champion Konrad Abeltshauser.
The Mooseheads used their second round pick (34th overall) on defenceman Cole Larkin. The right-handed shooting defenceman from Mermaid, PE has impressed scouts at every level throughout his career. He has good size and plays a responsible defensive game but can chip in offensively at times.
Larkin scored one goal and added 12 assists in 2017-18 with Charlottetown in the NBPEIMMHL. He also picked up a pair of assists in five games with Team PEI at the Gatorade Frost Excellence Challenge in April.
The Mooseheads made 15 picks in total including eight forwards, five defencemen and two goalies.
