Sylvain Favreau named Assistant Coach

The Halifax Mooseheads named a new Assistant Coach on Thursday as Sylvain Favreau has joined Jim Midgley’s coaching staff. Favreau leaves his position as Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations with the Cumberland Grads of the CCHL in Ontario for the opportunity to work for the Mooseheads.

The 39-year-old has coached in the CCHL since 2009 with both Cumberland and Gloucester. Favreau was named runner-up for Coach of the Year in 2016 and is serving as a guest coach with Hockey Canada’s U17 program this summer. He says he is counting down the days until his arrival in Halifax.

“I am very proud and excited to join such a storied franchise and to pursue my coaching career with the Mooseheads. I look forward to working with Jim Midgley and Jon Greenwood. The Mooseheads’ talented group of players and the organization’s focus on developing players to their full potential presents a great and welcome challenge.”

Favreau grew up in Orleans, Ontario which is located only about 20 minutes east of Ottawa and is fully bilingual. He was a forward in Junior ‘A’ in Ontario from 1995-98 before heading overseas where he played professionally in France and Germany for five seasons.

“I am excited for this new challenge and thrilled to have an opportunity to work with an exceptionally talented young group of hockey players.”
