Weegar & Grenier AHL All-Stars
A pair for former Mooseheads players will be front and center in the American Hockey League All-Star game tonight in Lehigh Valley, PA. Defenceman MacKenzie Weegar of the Springfield Thunderbirds suits up for the Eastern Conference against Forward Alexandre Grenier of the Utica Comets and the Western Conference All-Stars.
Tonight’s All-Star game will be televised on Sportsnet One at 8:00pm Atlantic.
Weegar, a Florida Panthers prospect, has nine goals and 10 assists in 33 games this season with the Thunderbirds. He played with the Mooseheads for two seasons (2012-13 & 2013-14) collecting 103 points in 123 games and helped the team win the Memorial Cup in his rookie season. Weegar was selected by Florida in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and is in his third season in the AHL.

Grenier is having another solid year in his fourth season in Utica with 14 goals and 21 assists in 41 games. The former third round pick of the Vancouver Canucks played one season in a Mooseheads uniform where he often found himself on a line with rookie Nathan MacKinnon in 2011-12. Grenier scored 64 points with Halifax. The Laval, QC native appeared in six games with the Canucks last season in the NHL.
