Halifax Mooseheads’ forward Logan MacMillan, Charlottetown, PE, will represent Canada as a member of the Canadian National Men’s Under-18 Team at the 2006 Junior World Cup at Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic August 8 to 12, 2006, Hockey Canada announced this morning.
MacMillan, one of three Mooseheads invited to the Team Canada Selection Camp at Calgary, AB July 29th to August 1st, will depart for the Czech Republic tomorrow and will play in Canada’s first game Sunday, August 6, an exhibition game against the Czech Republic at Breclav. Canada’s first tournament game takes place August 8th against Switzerland.
The tournament will be MacMillan’s third on the international stage, having played in the 2006 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge at Regina, SK Dec. 29/05 to Jan. 4/06 as Captain of Team Atlantic, finishing second in team scoring, 3 goals, 3 assists. He also competed in the 2005 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge at Lethbridge, AB Dec. 20, 2004 to Jan. 4, 2005, winning a Bronze Medal as a member of Team Atlantic, the first Atlantic Team to win a medal at the event.
MacMillan, Halifax’s second selection, round 2 (34) in the 2005 QMJHL Entry Draft, played in 41 games with the Mooseheads last season (9 goals, 9 assists).
Two other Mooseheads, defenceman Ben MacAskill, Antigonish, NS, Halifax’s first selection in 2005, round 1 (17), and Brad Malone, Miramichi, NB, obtained by the Mooseheads in a June 9th trade, attended the selection camp.
Both had previous international experience as teammates of MacMillan on Team Atlantic at the 2006 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
“We are very happy for Logan MacMillan,” Halifax Mooseheads General Manager Marcel Patenaude said. “Logan had an outstanding camp and fully deserves to be on the team.
“Although it is the coaches’ decision on which players make the final selection and we have to respect this, I am, however, very disappointed that our other two players have not been named to the team. In watching the selection camp and Red – White games, I thought that Brad Malone had a great camp and deserved to be a member the Under-18 National Team.
“Ben MacAskill also acquitted himself very well and was certainly in the mix. He would have been a valued member of the team had he been selected.”
