Halifax Mooseheads rookie Otto Somppi will participate in tonight’s BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Vancouver, BC which airs at 10pm AST on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific.

The 18-year-old from Finland will suit up for Team Orr along with fellow QMJHLers; defenceman Luke Green (Saint John Sea Dogs), forward Pascal Laberge (Victoriaville Tigres) and forward Pierre-Luc Dubois (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles).

Team Cherry features forwards Julien Gauthier (Val d’Or Foreurs), Vitalii Abramov (Gatineau Olympiques), defenceman Samuel Girard (Shawinigan Cataractes) and goaltender Evan Fitzpatrick (Sherbrooke Phoenix).

Somppi has scored 33 points in 41 games played with Halifax this season including nine goals and 24 assists. He was recently listed 47th among North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting midterm rankings, while TSN’s Craig Button has him projected as the 69th best prospect available.

Central Scouting describes the Mooseheads Centre as a “Relentless competitor who is most effective playing an assertive “in-your-face” style.

During Thursday’s practice he played Centre on a line with Right Wing Taylor Raddysh (Erie Otters) and Left Wing Boris Katchouk (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds).
