There’s a good chance the Mooseheads will have their leading rookie scorer back in the lineup this weekend as the team prepares to host the QMJHL-leading Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Friday and the Val d’Or Foreurs on Saturday.

General Manager Cam Russell said Otto Somppi could return after missing seven games with a shoulder injury.

“We’re hoping he’ll be in the games on Friday and Saturday,” he said.

“He’s practicing with body contact this week and will be evaluated again on Friday morning.”

Somppi, fifth in team scoring with 21 points (3 goals 18 assists), was hurt during the Mooseheads 5-4 overtime win against Baie Comeau on November 7th at Scotiabank Centre when he took an unsuspecting hit near the blue line. His 18 assists led the team in that department at the time.

The Helsinki, Finland native was the 18th player selected in June’s CHL Import Draft and has played centre on the second line for the majority of the season for Halifax.

The Mooseheads kick off a five-game homestand beginning Friday against the Huskies and will also entertain Val d’Or on Saturday. Both games are 7pm starts. Tickets are on sale now at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office at Scotiabank Centre, select Superstore Outlets, or charge by phone at 902-451-1221.

Holiday Packs are also now on sale starting as low as $18. Holiday Packs include two open-ended ticket vouchers which can be exchanged at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office for any 2015-2016 regular season Mooseheads home game after Christmas.
