When the 2020-21 NHL regular season officially kicked off on Wednesday night there were 13 Mooseheads alumni either on an opening night roster, taxi squad or behind the bench.
The taxi squads are a new addition to the NHL this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic and those players will practice and travel with their teams and will be available to fill-in in the event of an injury or Covid-19 exposure.
The Mooseheads have seven former players included on opening night rosters, while three are injured or unfit to play, one taxi squad member and two coaches. They are as follows:
Opening Night Roster: Jonathan Drouin (Montreal Canadiens), Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Jakub Voracek (Philadelphia Flyers), Mackenzie Weegar (Florida Panthers), Filip Zadina (Detroit Red Wings), Timo Meier (San Jose Sharks), Brad Marchand (Boston Bruins).
Injured/Unable to play: Nikolaj Ehlers (Winnipeg Jets), Nico Hischier (New Jersey Devils), Martin Frk (Los Angeles Kings).
Taxi Squad: Zach Fucale (Washington Capitals).
Assistant Coach: Dominique Ducharme (Montreal Canadiens), Jason King (Vancouver Canucks).
The Mooseheads and their fans would like to wish everyone involved in the NHL season the best of luck.
