American Stephen Davis joining the Moose

2020-12-14

The Mooseheads will be getting a significant boost on the blueline once the QMJHL season resumes in January. General Manager Cam Russell has confirmed that Boston College defenceman Stephen Davis is leaving the NCAA Division 1 program in favour of joining the Herd following the Christmas break.

The 18-year-old from Hingham, MA was originally drafted by Halifax in the 14th round of the 2018 QMJHL Entry Draft and attended training camp with the Mooseheads in 2018 before returning to the United States and the Boston Advantage program. He has played parts of the last two seasons in the USHL with the Madison Capitols and joined the Boston College Eagles as a freshman this fall but has yet to play a game.

“We’re very excited to add a player of his caliber to our team. We liked what we saw from him in camp when he was here two years ago and we’ve continued to follow his progress,” Russell said.

Davis plays a rugged, stay-at-home style on defense and is known for being reliable in his own end and logging big minutes. He produced seven points and 57 penalty minutes in 45 games last season with Madison. His listed height is 6-feet-tall and he weighs 216 pounds.

“I decided to come to Halifax because I think it’s an unbelievable place for me to develop as a player and a person. Halifax is an awesome city and the organization has an incredible reputation. I’m really excited to get started as a Moosehead,” Davis said.

The addition of Davis leaves the Mooseheads with nine defencemen on the roster including Captain Justin Barron who is currently in Edmonton, AB where he will represent Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship later this month.  Davis gives the Herd a fifth right-handed shot from the blueline.
