Your Halifax Mooseheads are set to play two straight games at home this weekend when they entertain Charlottetown and Saint John at Scotiabank Centre.
The Islanders will visit Halifax on Friday night at 7pm in the first matchup of the weekend. Jim Hulton’s Charlottetown squad is on a roll to start the season and enters the game in second place in the Maritimes Division with a 3-1-0-0 record. They won their first three games of the schedule against Moncton, Saint John and Cape Breton but dropped a 6-2 decision to the Eagles last Saturday. The Isles are led by 20-year-old Cedric Desruisseaux who is among the QMJHL scoring leaders with eight points.
The Mooseheads will host the Saint John Sea Dogs on Saturday night at 7pm in the first meeting between the teams this season. The Dogs sit at 1-1-1-0 with their lone win coming via the shootout last Friday when they topped Acadie-Bathurst 2-1. All three of their games have been decided by one goal, including a 4-3 overtime loss to the Titan and a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Charlottetown. Saint John had last Saturday’s game against the Wildcats postponed following the New Brunswick Government’s decision to return the Moncton area to the Orange level.
Halifax (1-2-1-0) will be looking for their first win since opening night in Cape Breton. Zachary L’Heureux leads the team with six points while Liam Peyton and Elliot Desnoyers both have four points. Captain Justin Barron has been back practicing with the team for about a week and continues to near a return from a September medical procedure. There is still no targeted date for his return to game action. Goalie Cole McLaren missed Sunday’s road game in Bathurst with a lower body injury and is still day-to-day with his status for this weekend yet to be determined.
