Benji Newson takes over as Head Equipment Manager

There will be a new face on the bench to begin the 2021-22 regular season for your Halifax Mooseheads after Benji Newson was named the new Head Equipment Manager this week.

Newson will replace the departing Alex Ryan who has accepted a position as an Assistant Equipment Manager with the AHL’s Ontario Reign. The 22-year-old Newson spent last season with the Grand Falls Rapids where current Mooseheads Assistant Coach Brad Mackenzie was the Head Coach at the time. Newson hails from Charlottetown, PE and has also spent the last several months as the Head Equipment Manager with the Summerside Western Capitals.

Ryan leaves to join the Los Angeles Kings organization with their top farm team in Ontario, California which is located just over 50 kilometers east of Los Angeles. He has spent the last two seasons with Halifax following a stop in Val d’Or in 2018-19 and four seasons with the St. FX X-Men program in Antigonish.

The Mooseheads would like to welcome Benji to the team and thank Alex for his hard work and dedication over the last two seasons in Halifax.
