The Halifax Mooseheads star netminder has arrived at training camp and is ready for what he expects to be another exciting season in Moose Country.
Zach Fucale was on the ice with Team Green for practice on Thursday morning and says he was more than ready to rejoin his teammates.
“I’m super excited. Every year there’s always that little feeling that you’re anxious to get back and I’m happy that the long road trip yesterday is done so it feels good to be on the ice and good to see the guys,” he said, a few minutes before taking some time to sign autographs for a group of fans.
Fucale, who will sit out this afternoon’s game for the Green squad, says he made the drive from Montreal with his younger sister Jessie.
“My little sister wanted to come down because school doesn’t start for awhile so she wanted to come see camp and it was nice to have company for the drive.”
The 2013 Montreal Canadiens second round draft pick says taking part in the Habs development camp earlier this summer was an invaluable experience.
“It was great, I mean they had lots of positive things to stay, constructive criticism for me and I think for me that’s very good to be coming back here to Halifax I want to make sure I progress and take that extra step.”
Fucale says there isn’t one particular part of his game that the Montreal franchise wants him to work on this season.
“Just everything really, you know I need to improve mentally, physically whether it’s something in the gym or just technically so they just left me with a bunch of stuff that will help me for sure.”
The 19-year-old will return to Canadiens training camp on September 11th, but says he’s gearing up for another good season with Halifax.
“We’re hoping to have a good start to the season, there’s a bunch of young guys that are really excited to start their careers and all of the veterans are just as excited to get going. Who knows how the season will turn out but all that matters is getting ourselves prepared for that first game.”
