We have a Sunday afternoon matinee on tap at 3pm today as your Mooseheads (16-20-2-1) welcome the Charlottetown Islanders (22-16-5-0). Both teams are coming off losses to Chicoutimi after the potent offense of the Sagueneens was put on full display in both outings. The Herd dropped an 8-3 decision at home on Friday while the Islanders fell 8-2 at the Eastlink Centre last night. This is the seventh meeting of the season between Halifax and Charlottetown with the Moose holding a 2-4 record.
With the potential for poor weather in the forecast, the Islanders decided to travel to Halifax following their home game on Saturday night.
It’s only January but with 29 games left on the schedule for Halifax it is time to start paying attention to the playoff picture. As of puck drop today, the Mooseheads are tied with the Quebec Remparts with 35 points and the teams hold down the final two playoff positions in the QMJHL. The Gatineau Olympiques are out of the playoff picture, six points behind Quebec and Halifax but have won six of their last 10 games to make things a little tighter. The Remparts face the league-leading Sherbrooke Phoenix today while the Olympiques will battle Blainville-Boisbriand.
