Justin Barron Out Indefinitely

2020-09-25

Veteran defenceman Justin Barron won’t be in the lineup when the puck drops for the Mooseheads’ home opener on Saturday, October 3rd at Scotiabank Centre.

Barron is out indefinitely following a medical procedure in Ontario. A more precise timeline will be known in the coming days once a follow-up occurs. The defenceman appeared in 34 games with Halifax last season and scored 19 points on four goals and 15 assists. Barron is projected as a first or second round pick in the NHL Entry Draft to be held online October 6-7th. He was listed as the 16th best available North American skater in the final NHL Central Scouting rankings.

Including Barron, there are currently nine defencemen on the roster at 2020 Training Camp Presented by Eastlink. Among the players vying for a spot on the opening night roster are Jason Horvath, Brendan Tomilson, Cam Whynot, Lucas Robinson and Keegan Hunt as well as rookies Jake Furlong, Alex Carr and Alexandre Tessier.

The Mooseheads will wrap up the preseason schedule this Saturday at 4pm at the RBC Centre against the Charlottetown Islanders. Fans will be able to stream the game for free on the Mooseheads Official YouTube Channel. The regular season opens on the road against Cape Breton on Friday, October 2nd before the two Nova Scotia rivals meet again in Halifax for the Mooseheads’ Home Opener next Saturday night at 7pm.
