The Halifax Mooseheads have filled the third overage spot on their roster after General Manager Cam Russell acquired forward D’Artagnan Joly from the Rimouski Oceanic today. Russell gave up an eighth round pick in 2021 in exchange for the veteran forward.
The 20-year-old Joly is a former sixth round draft pick of the Calgary Flames and will join his fourth team after stints with Gatineau, Baie-Comeau and Rimouski. He has scored 177 career points in 230 games which included a personal best 68-point season in 2017-18.
He was originally drafted in the second round of the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft but was dealt as a rookie to Baie-Comeau as part of a package for defenceman Nicolas Meloche. He spent parts of four seasons with the Drakkar before being moved to the Oceanic on December 21st of last season. The Gatineau, QC native was sent to the Trenton Golden Hawks of the OJHL in October but was recalled to Rimouski in late November and scored his first goal of the season this past Saturday versus Quebec.
The 6-foot-3, 188 pound centre shoots right. He holds the Baie-Comeau record for most assists in one game with six, set in January, 2018.
Joly joins defenceman Denis Toner and recently acquired forward Kevin Gursoy as the three 20-year-old players on the Mooseheads roster. Russell has now completed four trades since the QMJHL trade period began on Sunday. The trade window runs until Monday, January 6th at Noon ET.
The Mooseheads return to home ice on Saturday, December 28th at 7pm when they host the Cape Breton Eagles in Game #1 of the Hurley Cup. Tickets are on sale now at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office, select Superstore outlets, TicketAtlantic.com or charge by phone 902-451-1221.
