Mooseheads claim defenceman DesRoches

The Halifax Mooseheads have claimed defenceman Olivier DesRoches off waivers from the Saint John Sea Dogs. The 18-year-old is in his third season in the QMJHL and played in 23 games this season with Saint John. He was originally drafted in the second round, 34th overall, by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in 2017 and was part of the trade with Shawinigan that brought Samuel Asselin to the Titan for their Memorial Cup run in 2018. DesRoches has played in 97 career games and has produced 13 assists and 35 penalty minutes. The Laval, QC native is 6-foot-1 and 196 pounds and shoots right.

The addition of DesRoches gives the Mooseheads depth on the blueline as a seventh healthy defenceman. Halifax’s Justin Barron remains out indefinitely with a blood clot.

The Mooseheads will host Raphael Lavoie and the Chicoutimi Sagueneens this Friday night at 7pm. Tickets are available at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office, select Superstore outlets, or charge by phone 902-451-1221.
