Prospect Martin wins Telus Cup with Moncton Flyers

It has been a banner year for Halifax Mooseheads prospect Jack Martin, who capped off his season with a Telus Cup Championship over the weekend in Okotoks, Alberta.

The young defenceman scored the overtime winning goal to give his Moncton Flyers the National U18 Title with a 5-4 victory over the Magog Cantonniers of Quebec as Moncton became just the second team from Atlantic Canada to win the Telus Cup Championship.

Martin was instrumental in the tournament victory with 12 points in seven games and was named the Top Defenceman of the tournament. He scored five goals and added seven assists which included a hat trick and OT winner versus Mississuaga during the round robin. The Upper Coverdale, NB native was a third round draft pick of the Mooseheads in 2021 and has clearly made his case for a spot on the 2022-23 Halifax roster.

He has already appeared in six regular season games for the Mooseheads and has the size and strength to make the next step. Martin is 6-feet-tall and weighs 175 pounds. He had 20 points in 30 regular season games with the Flyers while posting another two points in seven playoff games prior to competing in the Telus Cup.
